In 2004, the conservation department of the
Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, commissioned
Heirloom Gold Leaf Studio to design and create
a new frame for this portrait.
The profile features a flat panel sloped inward
to an oval bead and cove sight edge, capped with
a larger oval moulding modelled on the form of
the subject's head.
Finished in water-gilt 22k genuine gold leaf
burnished over red bole on the cap and sight
edge, and matte over brown bole on the panel.
